Young moms like, Joanna Joseph, are a fundamental part of our Quw'utsun need to ensure a healthy and vibrant territory for children to thrive in places of knowledge and play !
We have a responsibility to nurture our children with opportunities for joy !
Our traditional ways are now blending with the ways of our non-native neighbours in a healthier environment. Events like the North American Indigenous Games demonstrated a good neighbour policy that can exist today : the volunteers were much appreciated !
Certainly, the old ways of small minds still linger. There are obvious places of ignorance; where our customs and traditions are regarded by some with uncertainty ands suspicion. And, those hostilities may never go away ... But, we - as Coast Salish Quw'utsun Peoples - have developed clever ways of ensuring that our 10,000 years of practises as indigenous peoples will survive beyond what will sometimes be expressed as Canada's assimilation programs.
